Monitoring of particulates in ambient air

Airborne particulate matter is an ensemble of solid particles suspended and dispersed in the air. The properties of these particles vary in terms of chemical composition morphology (size and shape), optical parameters (colour/light scattering) and electrical characteristics (change resistance). In an ambient air dust particles have a size range from a few nanometres to hundreds of micrometre. Total SPM (particle size up to 100 micrometres) is the estimate of total airborne particles mass measured by high volume sampler. The process of carrying out monitoring with the high volume sampler for the measurement of total SPM has been, in detail, explained in this chapter.
