Polluter pays principle

‘Polluter pays principle’ has become an essential feature of sustainable development. The judgment of the Supreme Court has responded to the indiscriminate and illegal industrialization by taking a hard stand against the polluters. ‘Polluter pays principle’ means absolute liability for damage to the environment extends not only to compensate the victim pollution but also the cost of restoration of the environmental degradation. It was our first time applied and defined in the case of the Indian Council for Enviro-Legal action.
