SODAR Systems are based on acoustic sounding where low-frequency sound waves are transmitted vertically upwards and the reflected signals are sensed to provide echograms. Use of site-specific mixing heights, stability classes as given by SODAR for computing plume rise makes dispersion modelling much more realistic and reliable.
